A blended polyester/cotton yarn has a higher breaking elongation than a cotton yarn because of the rupture of cotton fibers which allows inelastic extension of the yarn. However, the polyester is not able to absorb as much of the load as it could because of its lower stiffness. Also, OE yarns have a structure different from ring yarns; this affects both the elongation and tenacity. The paper suggests theories to account for the characteristics demonstrated by experiment on both ring and OE yarns.
