Abstract

Two mixtures containing Ca (NO 3 )2 •4H 2 O and KNO 3 or Mg (NO 3 )2 •6H 2 O of composition close to their eutectics are described as promising thermal heat storage (TES) materials suitable for passive solar heating applications. Supercooling is hindered by a system which apparently may be applied to other salt mixtures of this type. A comparison is made with other salt mixtures containing magnesium salts previously studied. Tests are in progress to confirm that no efficiency reduction after many heating/cooling cycles occurs.
